Potica is a Slovene pastry which traditionally appears on tables on holidays. It was first mentioned by Primož Trubar as povitica in 1575, the first recipe for it was written in 1689 by Janez Vajkard Valvasor in the Glory of the Duchy of Carniola, where the potica is mentioned as a thinly rolled dough with walnut stuffing with honey. Today we know more than 120 types of potica,  "slovenska potica has been protected since 2018 - Traditional Speciality Guaranteed, 5 potica varieties have been protected and their specialty is stuffing and baking in a potičnik baking pan.

Potica je slovensko pecivo, ki se tradicionalno pojavlja na mizah ob praznikih. Prvič jo omeni Primož Trubar kot povitico v 1575, prvi recept zanjo je 1689 zapisal Janez Vajkard Valvasor v Slavi vojvodine Kranjske, kjer je potica omenjena kot zvito tanko razvaljano testo z orehovim nadevom z medom. Danes poznamo več kot 120 vrst potic, od leta 2018 "slovenska potica" nosti zaščito - zajamčena tradicionalna posebnosti, zaščitili so 5 vrst potic, njihova posebnost so nadev in peka v potičniku.
