PRESS - MEDIA
Slocks (ice) are a tribute to Slovenian cultural heritage, adorned with dishes and objects sacred to Slovenians, filling us with pride and representing us to the world. Slocks socks feature elements and patterns from our everyday life – as well as those reserved for special occasions.
Slocks promote sustainable development and ecological fashion, which is why the materials used are toxin-free and do not negatively impact the environment. Slocks socks are made in Slovenia, crafted from premium cotton, and boast an ecological certificate.
Slocks – everyone can find their pair here!
Socks that unite and represent Slovenians. Every nation has symbols and objects by which it is recognized and by which members of the nation recognize each other. Be it a national basketball jersey, Slovenian potica, Carniolan sausage, or the Slovenian coat of arms. There are countless ways Slovenians socialize with each other, and many things are dear to all of us. At Slocks, we started with the most delicious, Slovenian potica, which became nationally protected in 2018, and Carniolan sausage, which even flew into space in 2006 – truly a Slovenian "cosmic sausage." We continued with MEDENE (honey-themed socks), which we created in collaboration with Slovenian designer Jani Bizjak, who designed the commemorative coin for the 1st World Bee Day in 2018; then came CVIČEK (wine-themed socks), LJUBLJANA sports socks, followed by the wine story with REBULA (wine-themed socks).
With Slovenian products, Slocks promotes Slovenian fashion that is sustainably oriented, made and designed in Slovenia, and born out of love for everything Slovenian.
In step with fashion and Slovenian cultural heritage
Slocks is created by me - Tina Mentol; as an ethnologist, I deal with the question of Slovenian cuisine and gastronomy, which is evolving. Slovenian cuisine is something we cannot keep in chains, yet it is also under-encouraged and under-promoted. While writing my master's thesis on national dishes, I realized that we do not have many "promotional" non-food products, other than books, that could promote our heritage and, of course, gastronomy in 2021 as a European
Region of Gastronomy - so I decided that Carniolan sausage and potica would end up on socks. Why socks? They can be fashionable, ecological, an everyday item, an ideal gift, and most importantly, they have practical value. I took inspiration from the research of material culture by Daniel Miller (anthropologist - research on denim, clothing as part of material culture) and, of course, some local
experts, Dr. Jernej Mlekuž and Dr. Janez Bogataj. Slocks socks saw the light of day in December 2019. The socks are entirely made in Slovenia, carry an eco-certificate, and TERAN (wine-themed socks) will soon see the light of day on socks. Most importantly, the stories on the label, written in Slovenian and English, also educate the user.
